ESCORT  TR 4008 is a multinational collaborative project within the Transport sector of Telematics Applications Programme (TAP, under the European Union's 4th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development 1994 - 1998).

ESCORT began in January 1998 and has had a duration of 27 months. The Consortium is made up by partners from Spain, France, Italy, Belgium and UK.

ESCORT means European Standard Controller with Advanced Road Traffic Sensors, so it dealt with the development of a new philosopy of traffic control at intersection level.
